[edit] Introduction
Joe plays fast polo. He is a strong paddler, with a background in marathon and slalom kayaking as well as kayak polo. Joe usually plays chase, but can be a very effective zone defender. He is most dangerous at chase because of his ability to fast break.

Joe joined the Tornadoes in the fall of 2000. Joe was a quick learner and also took up marathon flatwater racing with Alan Lamb. Joe played with the Tornadoes at the 2001 Nationals and scored one of the few goals against the Canadian Junior team that year. Joe first played with the US Under 21 Men at the Pan American Championship 2001. Joe proceeded to play with the Texas Tornadoes and the Texas Tornadoes B in the US Nationals 2002 and US Nationals 2003. He was captain of the US Under 21 Men at the Pan American Championship 2003, where the US Under 21 Men won 1st place.

Joe currently lives in the Dallas metroplex area and supports his younger brothers (Ben Mayfield, Sam Mayfield, and Peter Mayfield) and other U21 players on the Texas Tornadoes.
