Marty Bell is one of the progenitors of the sport in the US. He was host to the second US National Championship (in 2000). He founded Mountain Kayak Polo, which is possibly the only known kayak polo league in the US. Marty was coach for the US national team for many years. He is a fast player, much of this is due to his excellent ability to react to the play before it happens.

Marty is also the head referee of the United States.
