Steve Hemsley

- Started playing canoe polo for Sydney University around 1983.
- Made the selected Australian team for Australia's first overseas competition, Asian Canoeing Championships, 1984, in Hong Kong.
- Member of first Australian team to tour Europe in 1985.
- Trained and led a variety of teams to Australian Inter-Club Championships
- At the first international competition in Australia, Sydney, 1989, Steve was unofficially acclaimed the best player in the world by the visiting French teams (name escapes me for the moment) who were club champions of Europe at the time.
- Played in the 1989 and 1991 teams to tour Europe.
- Think he was in the victorious Australian team for 1994 World Championships, probably captain
- Captain (I Think) for the 1996 World Championships in Adelaide. Again World Champions.
- Was Chief Referee for Australia for several years. Was the main collaborator with Richard Boult in developing first the Australian playing rules, and then the International Playing Rules.
- Major contributor to the development of improved kayak designs in Australia. The Maxibat and Stingray being the two main designs.
- Ran a canoe shop for a few years.
